This week marks the beginning of a whole month of giving!
With your help over the last two months, we’ve:
All donations made between today and GiveNOLA Day will go directly to supporting New Orleans’ young people
This week, in response a growing demand for affordable, prepared meals, Liberty’s Kitchen will prepare family meals for delivery from Top Box Foods!
Designed to feed up to five people, each order comes with two prepared meals. Roasted Turkey Breast as well as Creole Jambalaya are the two meals on this week’s menu.
Using our kitchen to stage, package and deliver produce boxes, Top Box Foods, Recirculating Farms Coalition and SPROUT NOLA, together with the Crescent City Farmers Market have teamed up to deliver farmers market produce directly to people’s homes. Top Box Foods delivered to over 5,000 families since mid-March, generating over $80,000 in revenue for local farmers in response to stay-at-home orders due to Covid-19.
There are many more young people in need of healthy food, so please click below to donate, and be sure to note “trainee groceries” in the comments section.
This is vitally important work, none of which happens without your support, so thank you.
Meet Sunje Warren, Cafeteria Supervisor
You might recognize Sunje from our Poydras cafeteria location. Sunje started working at that location–when it was known as the Freeport McMoRan building–even before Liberty’s Kitchen moved into the cafeteria space in 2017. In the 11 years that Sunje’s been there, she’s worked all stations and knows the ins and outs of the place better than most!
Since March 16th, Sunje has been working at her other full-time job: mom to three kids, who are in 2nd, 7th and 11th grades. When Liberty’s Kitchen decided to head back into the kitchen to cook family meals, Sunje was one of the first to step up and agree to return. “I think it’s a good idea for New Orleans that we’re doing this,” Sunje said. “I hope we can get back to business as usual, but until then, we’re doing what we can for the community.”
Chief Operating Officer Tasheena Butler said, “Sunje has been a bright spot (pun intended) for our organization. She’s a good mentor to our youth. And even with her family obligations, Sunje stepped right to the plate to help our team in the midst of this pandemic. We are very grateful to have her.”
Thank you, Sunje, for returning to the kitchen to cook for our community!
Thank you, Sunje, for all you do!
Help our team continue to meet the moment.
