In service, together: April 15 Update

You asked, We answered!  Liberty’s Kitchen, in collaboration with Top Box Foods, to sell prepared family meals

This week, in response a growing demand for affordable, prepared meals, Liberty’s Kitchen will prepare family meals for delivery from Top Box Foods!

Designed to feed up to five people, each order comes with two prepared meals. Roasted chicken with garlic mashed potatoes & Seasonal pork loin with wild rice are the two meals on this week’s menu.

HELP KEEP OUR KITCHEN OPEN SO OUR COMMUNITY CAN EAT.

Thanks to YOUR donations, 44 young people received fresh fruits and vegetables in the last three weeks.

Using our kitchen to stage, package and deliver produce boxes, Top Box Foods, Recirculating Farms Coalition and SPROUT NOLA, together with the Crescent City Farmers Market have teamed up to deliver farmers market produce directly to people’s homes. Top Box Foods delivered nearly 3,300 boxes to over 1,000 families since mid-March in response to stay-at-home orders due to Covid-19.

There are many more young people in need of healthy food, so please click below to donate, and be sure to note “trainee groceries” in the comments section.

This is vitally important work, none of which happens without your support, so thank you.

I WANT TO SEND PRODUCE TO A YOUNG PERSON!

Meet Jess Young, Career Specialist

For Liberty’s Kitchen’s Jess Young, her work is all about relationships. Jess joined the team in November and in just over five months, she’s forged relationships with a number of alumni and trainees alike.

With work experience in the hospitality industry and an educational background in conflict management, Jess was made for this job. She combines her knowledge of the innards of the restaurant world and a knack for advocacy and she approaches each externship and job connection with intention and heart. “I look at my job in separate parts,” Jess said. “Resume and cover letter writing are just a part of it.” Jess conducts career and personality assessments with each young person to gauge what they are interested in. “What does success look like for you?” is a question she poses to each young person with whom she works.

Since March 13th, the day Liberty’s Kitchen suspended programming, Jess has remained connected to the young people, albeit in different, more immediate ways. “I’m spending more time texting and talking on the phone,” she said. “I’m delivering fruit and veggie boxes to those who need them and explaining how to file for unemployment.”

While Covid-19 has closed Liberty’s Kitchen’s doors for a time, the work goes on and the need is still there. It’s team members like Jess who bring meaning to the work. As Jess recently shared, “I wish we didn’t have to limit the number of boxes we could deliver. When a young person gets a grocery box, it takes them out of a funk. The money really does go a long way.”

Thank you, Jess, for all you do!

HELP OUR PROGRAMS TEAM MAINTAIN THESE IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS.
