Come Grow With Us
On Friday, June 21st, Liberty’s Kitchen hosted its second annual fundraising event Come Grow With Us. The event, chaired by Liberty’s Kitchen Board member Ellen Frischhertz, was held in The Cannery. The evening was a tremendous success raising more than $70,000 that will go toward critical operating funds. We were delighted that over 300 business and civic leaders joined us for music provided by the Latin Jazz Trio and the Brass-A-Holics as well as an array of marvelous small plates.
Eight local chefs prepared and donated the food for the evening. Featured chefs were Jeff Baron- Crescent Pie & Sausage/Pizzacare, Adam Biderman- The Company Burger, Aaron Burgau- Patois, Dan Esses- Three Muses, Restauranteur Chef Adolfo Garcia, Tariq Hanna- Sucre, Alon Shaya-Domenica, Steve Stryjewski-Cochon, and Nathaniel Zimett-Boucherie. Honing down on their kitchen skills, Liberty’s Kitchen students worked alongside each chef in the preparation and serving of the food. The students’ participation in the evening was a reminder to our guests that the evening was a celebration of Liberty’s Kitchen’s success, but most significantly the outstanding achievements of our students.
This year’s event honored Chef Emeril Lagasse and the Emeril Lagasse Foundation with the Liberty’s Kitchen Youth Advocate Award. The Foundation has been a transformative funder to myriad youth organizations in our city. Their charitable dollars have made a significant difference in the lives of thousands of children and young people and, in particular, those participating in Liberty’s Kitchen’s programming.
Come Grow With Us highlighted Liberty’s Kitchen ongoing theme— our GROWTH and future expansion to the ReFresh Project where our new quarters will include 10,000 square feet of space. Located at Bienville and Broad Streets, the new facility will allow us to double the number of young people served in our Youth Development Program and increase the capacity of our Healthy School Lunch program. Liberty’s Kitchen is in the midst of a capital campaign.
